On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at around 3:45 am, 18 coaches of the Howrah-CSMT Express train derailed near Chakradharpur in Jharkhand
The train was traveling from Howrah to Mumbai when the accident occurred between Rajkharswan West Outer and Barabamboo stations under the South Eastern Railway
At least two people died and 20 were injured in the accident The injured passengers were given first aid at the spot and then taken to Chakradharpur and other nearby hospitals for further treatment
Rescue operations were immediately launched by the Railways, with local police and railway employees assisting the passengers.
The accident occurred after a goods train had derailed on the same section two days ago. When the passenger train came on the
other track, it collided with the derailed wagons, causing several coaches of the Howrah-Mumbai Mail to also derail.
Rail operations on the Tatanagar -Chakradharpur section of the South Eastern Railway came to a halt due to the incident. Many trains were canceled,
Helpline numbers were issued by the Indian Railways to assist the passengers and their families.
An investigation has been ordered into the accident, and a team from the engineering department has been dispatched to examine the incident.
